Assistive Technology

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Region 6 Education Service Center provides support to school personnel and strives to improve student achievement, productivity, independence and inclusion by enhancing educator knowledge of Assistive Technology (AT) and increasing student access to appropriate devices and services. Assistive technology can be a very complex and multifaceted field, yet in some cases be a relatively easy and creative problem-solving process. Assistive technology can have numerous definitions, depending upon the population, the desired outcomes, the type of technology used and the experience and orientation of the consumers and professionals involved.

Technical assistance may include:

  • Research-based professional development
  • Professional assistance via phone, email or in-district
  • In-district student observations and consultations
  • Preview/loan library for assistive technology devices and software

Region 6 ESC provides quality staff development that support student performance and independence in communication, listening, mobility, recreation and leisure, vocational training and daily living activities. Our staff development activities may be found in the Region 6 Special Education Staff Development On-Line Catalog, additional information may be made available through special flyers, brochures and through the assistive technology listserv.
