The review process provides school districts with an opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs. The process is based upon criteria as defined in the “Texas Comprehensive Developmental Guidance and Counseling Program Model” (Texas Education Agency) and standards as established by the American School Counselor Association.

Activities included in the program review enable counselors and others to:

• Determine the impact of the counseling program on students, faculty, parents, and school climate
• Know if counselors are accomplishing their goals
• Identify what remains to be accomplished
• Eliminate or improve less effective components of the program
• Adapt and refine the guidance program and implementation process
• Establish goals for the counselors’ professional development
• Determine additional resources required to carry the program forward
• Provide accountability information to educators and the community
