Course Description for School Transportation Professionals:

START: School Transportation Active Threat Response Training (4-Hour Overview)

School transportation professionals play a vital role in protecting students every day. This 4-hour training provides an introduction to the principles and concepts of the School Transportation Active Threat Response Training (START) program. While not a substitute for the full 12-hour START course, this condensed session is designed to increase awareness, improve preparedness, and provide practical strategies that can be applied immediately.

Participants will explore response considerations for a variety of situations that may occur on or around a school bus, including active threats, weapons on the bus, student behavioral concerns, crisis de-escalation, physical altercations, emergency decision-making, and situational awareness.

Drawing on the expertise of law enforcement, school safety professionals, emergency responders, and behavioral specialists, this training focuses on empowering transportation staff through knowledge, preparation, and confidence. Attendees will gain valuable insights into recognizing potential threats, responding effectively during critical incidents, and enhancing the safety of students and staff during daily transportation operations.
